Day Trip: Riley’s Apple Farm in Oak Glen, California to celibrate the apple season

Riley’s Apple Farm in Oak Glen, California was something that I pondered upon while searching the internet for apple orchards in Southern California. Oak Glen is a tiny town with a handful of apple farms that hosts many activities during the apple harvest season from Labor Day through Thanksgiving Day. My friends and I spent a good portion of our day trip at Riley’s Apple Farm to partake in the many activities like walking through the grounds, holding pumpkins in the pumpkin patch, watching apples being pressed into apple cider, and of course, eating.

The day trip to Riley’s Apple Farm was a lot of fun! There was no U-pick apples when we arrived, because it looked like the apples trees were picked earlier in the season. What a bummer, because I was so looking forward to picking my own apples to take home. To make up for it, we wandered the around the farm.

The apple season festivities are not year round at Riley’s, but it is a working farm with plenty of other year round stuff to look at and/or participate in besides the apples. For instance, if you’re into history like I am, Riley’s Apple Farm actually hold a civil war reenactment to remind us of a period of U.S. history. (I actually would like to see this next year.)

Anyway, below are few photos from my day trip to Riley’s Apple Farm last weekend. Looking at them reminds me of how tasty it was to eat Riley’s homemade apple pie and apple turnovers. Oh, their fresh pressed apple cider was quite the thirst quencher for a slightly warm autumn day.

Yep, it’s a real scarecrow; one of the best ones that I’ve ever seen in a long time. As a matter of fact, I saw no black crows around the perimeter of the corn rows.

Visiting Riley’s Apple Farm is year round although most of the fun is during apple season. There is no admission at Riley’s Apple Farm. It’s kid friendly, but not exactly pet friendly. There is a general store and a bakery on the premises to purchase fresh pies and other baked goods including their infamous apple cider. Lunch is whatever they barbeque for the day, but the lines are long.

Believe it or not, the town of Oak Glen encompasses a 5 mile radius. So to find other things to do and eat, visit http://www.oakglen.net/
