Congratulations to Chef Ben Ford of Ford’s Filling Station who won this year’s Cochon 555 Los Angeles event over the weekend. It was a fierce, yet friendly competition Chef Ford and Chef Chad Colby of Mozza (last year’s winner), Chef Micah Wexler of Mezze, Chef Jason Neroni of the soon-to-be-open Superba Snack Bar, and Chef Neil Fraiser and Travis Lorton of The Strand House. Each chef was assigned to make five dishes from one of five heritage breed pigs provided to them.
I loved the creativity of the entire Cochon 555 menu from each of the chefs, because they came up with many truly amazing dishes. However, Chef Ford stood out among the rest, because he presented an offal inspired menu with cuisine influences from France, Germany, Mexico, and American comfort food. Oh heck, what convince me to place my public vote for Chef Ford was his incredible German Chocolate Bacon Cake. Seriously Folks…the bacon bits and fat were infused in the frosting!

Anyway, I wish Chef Ben Ford the best of luck when he competes again this time to represent Southern California at the Cochon 555 event in Aspen, Colorado. Congratulations again and good luck Chef Ford!
